The City of Los Angeles invites the community to join the Department of Planning in the Warner Center Specific Plan update workshops conducted by Urban Designer Pat Smith and held at the Kaiser Auditorium on September 4 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm and on Saturday, September 6 from 9:00 am to 12 noon.
The Warner Center Specific Plan update is a unique collaborative endeavor with the City of Los Angeles, Councilman Zine and the Department of Planning partnering with the Warner Center Association and the Woodland Hills Warner Center Neighborhood Council. The Pat Smith Urban Design team has been hired to create a community design process that involves the whole neighborhood in establishing the Specific Plan.
The most recent Neighborhood Council “Great Streets!” Community Forum was so successful that the theme will resonate and inspire the upcoming workshops as Pat Smith presents an overview of the elements of “Great Streets!” and the options and choices that the Warner Center community has in laying out a plan for the future.
Community members will have an opportunity to work with the Urban Design team in drafting street designations that incorporate the elements that appeal to the participants. It’s no secret that the community doesn’t want traffic congestion and gridlock but the Department of Planning and the design consultants want to turn the dialogue around and determine what the community does want.
It’s in this spirit that the Woodland Hills Warner Center Neighborhood Council has been conducting Community Forums featuring the “Panel of Visionaries” and addressing different topics, from the “Vision of the West Valley” in June to “Great Streets!” in August to the upcoming “Mobility” Community Forum on October 16, all in an effort to shift the debate from things the community doesn’t want to things the community does want.
The Warner Center Specific Plan workshops are an opportunity for those in Woodland Hills Warner Center to weigh in on walkable streets, rideable streets, sustainable streets, green streets, livable streets and how to get around and enjoy them, all in a collaborative environment led by Urban Designers who will facilitate and guide the process so that the results can be included in the Warner Center Specific Plan update.
