The first action to come out of the Board retreat was a letter to Mayor Villaraigosa and the City Council requesting that they act to restrict the SB1818 Implementation Ordinance to minimum requirements only.
The City of Los Angeles is required to update the local ordinance to reflect the changes SB1818 makes to the State of California Density Bonus law and at issue is the degree to which LA will meet or exceed the State’s minimums requirements.
Board Members and Stakeholders signed on at the retreat and Board Members Gordon Murley and Pat Patton delivered the letter to the City Council PLUM Committee, where they both offered testimony and urged the Councilmembers to preserve the character of the local community by honoring the limitations of local zoning.

On Saturday, February 11, the Boardmembers, stakeholders and guests of the Woodland Hills Warner Center Neighborhood Council met at the WH Marriott for an all-day Retreat and Board Workshop.
County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky opened the session with a passionate dissection of SB1818 and the LA’s City Council current approach to bringing the City into compliance with State law. Calling the law “a poorly thought-out effort to create affordable housing” Zev contends that LA’s proposed ordinance “places greater emphasis on new, more intense development than the law requires and less emphasis on neighborhood preservation and protection than it should.”
